Army Corps awards $14.6 million contract for facility at Tracy defense depot

SACRAMENTO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers earlier this week awarded a $14.6 million contract to build a public safety center at the Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin in Tracy.

The construction contact went to Mascon Inc. of Sacramento, it was announced Monday (July 16).

“The facility will be used to co-locate the fire department, police department, and the security, environmental, safety and occupational health departments,” said project manager Jerry Iacopini.

Construction of the 34,544-square-foot facility is scheduled to be completed in August 2014 and will be built to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, standards.

The depot in Tracy is one of two West Coast hubs for military distribution activities, stocking items commonly ordered by the military services.

Mascon Inc. is a U.S. Small Business Administration-designated small business. The federal government sets aside certain contract bid opportunities exclusively for small businesses.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides planning, engineering, project management, environmental restoration and construction services to military and civilian customers in parts of eight western states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
