STOCKTON – Delta Blood Bank this year will partner with National Run for Blood to sponsor the inaugural Run for Blood 5k run and walk in Stockton.
The event to benefit the Dameron Hospital Foundation and to promote blood donation will be 8 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Banner Island Ballpark, home of the Stockton Ports.
“Run for Blood’s mission is to broaden community awareness and involvement in the lifesaving efforts of giving blood through community charity runs,” reads a portion of the statement about the event. “This event has grown significantly and has expanded to cities across the country – all in an effort to raise funds and increase awareness of the needs of these blood centers. Please join us this year, along with other runners and walkers across the country, to support this lifesaving cause.”
Some 85 percent of the U.S. population will require donated blood during their lifetimes, but only 5 percent of those eligible actually donate. The Run for Blood is not just for blood donors, but for anyone in the community who wants to support the lifesaving effort of giving blood.
Preregistering by July 13 assures a participant a Run for Blood T-shirt on race day. T-shirts will be on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last for those registering after July 13. Registration is $30 for adults before July 13 and $35 after; registration for children is $25 before July 13 and $30 after.
Registration can be done online at www.deltabloodbank.org or www.runforblood.com.
