STOCKTON – St. Joseph’s Foundation will host its third 5K Fun Run/Walk for Wellness on Saturday, Jan. 21.
The fun run/walk will begin at St. Joseph’s Medical Center on Maple Street and go along a flat, double-loop route through University Park, according to a statement from the hospital. The route can be traversed by people of all ages and fitness levels.
Last year nearly 400 runners and walkers joined to kick off the new year with a pledge of living a healthier lifestyle. In-Shape Health Clubs is a presenting sponsor of the event.
“This is a great event – it’s full of energy,” said Michael Ricks, St. Joseph’s chief operating officer. “We’re hoping we can encourage people in this community to get outside and enjoy exercise, so that they will want to continue to participate in activities that can improve their health.”
Entry fee for the event is $30 until Jan. 15, when it goes up to $35. Children under the age of 10 may participate for $10, and each participating child will receive a medal courtesy of Fleet Feet Stockton. Proceeds from this year’s Fun Run/Walk for Wellness will benefit the St. Joseph’s CareVan, a mobile health clinic that provides health care services for over 4,000 low-income, medically underserved, and vulnerable populations in Stockton. The CareVan decreases unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency department visits, and assists patients in finding “medical homes.”
A health expo and group warm-ups led by In-Shape instructors will be featured at the event. And the first 100 registrants will receive a commemorative shirt.
