California will receive more than $22 million in federal grants to help more of the uninsured enroll in affordable health insurance coverage made available by the Affordable Care Act, said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

 The city of Stockton will host a series of town hall meetings to discuss its Marshall Plan on Crime. They will be held in each of the six Council districts beginning May 16.  The councilmember, city manager and chief of police will present at each meeting. An update on the city’s bankruptcy will also be provided.

So much excitement, so little time

The twists and turns of life are what keep me excited about tomorrow. At the end of April my eldest son Blake graduated from Navy boot camp. We had the extreme privilege of flying to Chicago to see the ceremony and experience one of the most memorable events in my lifetime.

Stockton and tourism are words that even the city’s most ardent supporters often have trouble associating with each other. Part of the Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) effort to change that is linked to a new tourism ambassador program that held its first test class April 2.

Stockton could exit bankruptcy by the end of the year if things go the way the city hopes. A federal bankruptcy judge in Sacramento gave Stockton the green light to stay in bankruptcy April 1.

California’s Department of Water Resources is scheduled to release new floodplain maps in July, and when it does some areas around Stockton that were designated for 100-year flood risk will be raised to 200-year flood standards. That could have major implications for insurance and future construction.
