Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will deliver the keynote address for the University of the Pacific's forum on Advancing Women's Leadership, "No Ordinary Woman" March 21.

 The Stockton City Council voted to appoint Michael Duffy to the Port Commission Tuesday night. He replaces outgoing Commissioner Ron Coale. Commissioner Stephen Griffen was reappointed.

The state has begun the process of hiring thousands of workers to care for prison inmates at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton, which is set to open in July.

 Police Sunday arrested the bookkeeper  suspected of heading an embezzling scheme that bilked a Stockton staffing company out of nearly $400,000.

Bruce Davies believes in downtown Stockton. He believes in the area so much that he is trying what will be the third attempt to put a successful restaurant in the Hotel Stockton since its renovation in 2008.

Occupancy in Stockton hotels grew 9.8 percent in 2012 compared to the previous year, and more than twice the growth rate at the state level, according to a report released Feb. 25 by the Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB). The bureau attributed the growth to its increased investment in marketing.

Six firefighters were promoted to the rank of fire captain at a ceremony Feb. 21. It was the first round of promotional celebrations for the Stockton Fire Department since 2010.
